A memorable tradition, Berkshire Bach Society’s annual Messiah Sing, always held on Thanksgiving weekend, is the Society’s gift to the community and heralds the beginning of the holiday season and the coming New Year. For almost 50 years now, communities both large and small across the U.S. have organized Messiah Sings based on George Frideric Handel’s English language oratorio composed in 1741. Sometimes called a Messiah “sing-in” or Messiah “sing-along”, these sings have become increasingly popular and are a fun and spirited way to usher in the holiday season.

Often accompanied by piano or organ, Berkshire Bach’s Messiah Sing stands out in that the singers are led by a professional choral director, the ever-popular Frank Nemhauser, and are accompanied by the Berkshire Bach Players, a seasoned instrumental ensemble of professional musicians, including Lucy Bardo, one of America’s first and finest viola da gamba players (playing cello), and legendary trumpet player, Allan Dean, along with Miriam Shapiro and Cindy Olgunick on violins, Eric Martin on viola, and Donald Sosin on piano.

Choral conductor Frank Nemhauser has been for many years the Music Director of both the Westchester Choral Society and the Berkshire Choral International (BCI, formerly Berkshire Choral Festival), as well as Director of Vocal Studies and Associate Professor at Mannes College of Music in New York.

And who are the singers and soloists? You are! That’s who. You get to sing the solos! And the audience becomes the chorus and raises its voice as one in the majestic Hallelujahs!

Bring your own score, or borrow one at the door. The setting is informal. Whether you are an experienced choral singer, an avid listener, or the occasional Messiah enthusiast, here’s your chance to join your friends and neighbors in song.

Be part of a tradition that sees some 2800 participants in the New York Messiah Sing at Lincoln Center, and nearly 4000 singers at the Albert Hall in London. Too shy to sing? Come and listen. Either way, you’ll have a blast.

Free!  (But donations are most welcome as we insist on paying our amazing musicians!)

Bring your own scores, borrow ours, or buy ours for $15.
(We use the G. Schirmer version.)
