The Berkshire Bach Society Essay Contest

We are pleased to introduce the first Annual Berkshire Bach Society Essay Contest, designed to recognize and encourage students who are interested in learning about the world of classical and Baroque music and performance practice. The contest is open to students in Berkshire County in grades 6-12. Prizes will be awarded in three categories: Middle School, High School, and Wildcard (any age).
Who should enter?
Middle School students in grades 6-8, especially (but not limited to) those studying an instrument or voice
High School students in grades 9-12, especially (but not limited to) those studying an instrument or voice
What do I need to do?
Write an essay on a question posed by The Berkshire Bach Society Board
Provide examples to explain your view, and include other information and media as you feel appropriate
What’s the prize?
Attend the dress rehearsal for the Berkshire Bach concert on 14-May 2022 at the First Congregational Church in Great Barrington, and have the opportunity to meet the conductor, the players, and the singers
Be recognized on the Berkshire Bach website, in events, and local media (as available)
What’s the point?
Experience first-hand the way a professional ensemble rehearses—including the logistics of presenting a large concert
Meet professional musicians
Make contacts who can potentially help you develop your interest in music
Experience a private performance
